Right Elbow Tuck
This drill is all about feel, training this in slow motion is easier to feel what you need to do for a better transition from your backswing to your downswing.
How to do it:
-
Take a full or half backswing you just practiced in the Slow Motion Backswing in this section
-
At the top you should first feel a lateral movement forward of your lead knee lead hip and lead shoulder, you want to feel all your weight moving to the top of the lead foot and the lead leg has straightened at this point. From this lateral movement what you will feel is the right elbow, for righties, is dropping or being pulled along with both arms and club towards the right hip. This is a straight down drop not a drop caused by the shoulders, arms and hands. Do this movement correct and you will also feel how your core has started to rotate automatically putting you in a perfect position to release the the force caused by this movement into the back of the ball.
-
Imagine you are pulling down on a rope. This feeling keeps the club behind you longer, preventing it from being cast out and over the top. By keeping the elbow dropping down in front of the right hip during this early stage of the forward rotation you encourage the club to drop down onto the correct inside path.
-
Start with small slow half-swings, focusing on this one sensation. As it becomes more natural, you can build up to full fluid swings.
